Medical Weight Management

More Than Weight Loss. A Personalized Plan for Better Health.

Weight management is not one-size-fits-all. At Azum Medical, we take a comprehensive, physician-supervised approach that considers your medical history, metabolism, lifestyle, medications, health risks, and personal goals.

Whether you are just beginning your journey or have struggled with weight despite previous efforts, our goal is to help you develop a safe, realistic, and sustainable plan for improving your health.

A Medical Approach to Weight Management

Excess weight can affect much more than appearance. It may influence blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, sleep, joint health, mobility, energy, and overall quality of life.

That's why our program begins with understanding you.

Rather than focusing only on the number on the scale, we evaluate the factors that may be contributing to weight gain or making weight loss more difficult and develop an individualized treatment plan based on your health needs.

Your Weight-Management Journey at Azum Medical

1

Comprehensive Consultation

Your first step is a one-on-one medical weight-management consultation.

During this visit, we will review:

  • Your current weight and weight history
  • Previous weight-loss attempts
  • Medical conditions
  • Current medications and supplements
  • Family history
  • Nutrition and eating patterns
  • Physical activity
  • Sleep
  • Stress and lifestyle factors
  • Weight-related symptoms or concerns
  • Your personal health and weight goals

We will also review whether prescription weight-management medication may be appropriate for you.

2

Baseline Health Assessment & Laboratory Testing

Successful medical weight management begins with understanding what is happening inside your body—not just what the scale says.

Laboratory testing may be recommended based on your individual medical history and clinical needs.

Testing may include:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
  • Hemoglobin A1c
  • Fasting glucose
  • Lipid/cholesterol panel
  • Thyroid testing (TSH)
  • Additional metabolic, nutritional, hormonal, or other testing when clinically indicated

Pregnancy testing may also be required when medically appropriate before initiating certain weight-management medications.

Your results help us identify potential health concerns, establish a baseline, and determine which treatment options may be safest and most appropriate for you.

3

Body Composition & Progress Tracking

The Scale Doesn't Tell the Whole Story.

When appropriate, patients may incorporate Fit3D Body Composition Scanning into their weight-management journey.

Fit3D allows us to establish baseline body measurements and visually track physical changes over time.

This gives you another way to see your progress—even during periods when the number on the scale may not tell the entire story.

Personalized Treatment Plan

After reviewing your consultation, health history, and available laboratory results, we develop an individualized weight-management plan.

Your plan may incorporate:

  • Nutrition and dietary recommendations
  • Physical-activity goals
  • Behavioral and lifestyle changes
  • Sleep and stress-management strategies
  • Management of weight-related medical conditions
  • Prescription medication when medically appropriate
  • Regular follow-up and progress monitoring

Our goal isn't simply to help you lose weight.

Our goal is to help you improve your health while building habits that support long-term success.

Prescription Weight-Management Medications

For patients who meet appropriate medical criteria, prescription medications may be incorporated into the treatment plan.

Options may include GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GIP/GLP-1 medications, including medications containing:

Semaglutide

Tirzepatide

These medications are not appropriate for every patient. Dr. Azum will review your medical history, current medications, contraindications, potential benefits, possible side effects, and treatment goals before determining whether medication-assisted weight management is appropriate.

Medication selection is always individualized.

How Do Weight-Management Prescriptions Work?

When an FDA-approved prescription medication is selected, prescriptions may be sent to a local or retail pharmacy based on medication availability, insurance requirements, and patient preference.

Azum Medical may also work with licensed compounding pharmacies in limited circumstances when a compounded medication is clinically appropriate, legally permitted, and necessary to meet an individual patient's medical needs that cannot be met by an available FDA-approved medication.

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and have not undergone the FDA's premarket review for safety, effectiveness, or quality.

Your available options will be discussed with you before treatment is initiated.

5

Medication Education & Treatment Initiation

If medication is part of your treatment plan, we don't simply write a prescription and send you on your way.

We will discuss:

  • How your medication works
  • How and when to use it
  • Proper administration when injectable medication is prescribed
  • Common side effects
  • Symptoms that require medical attention
  • Nutrition and hydration while taking medication
  • Medication storage when applicable
  • Your initial treatment goals
  • Your follow-up schedule

Weight-management medications are generally started and adjusted according to the medication's prescribing recommendations and the patient's individual response and tolerance.

6

Ongoing Monitoring & Follow-Up

Your Journey Doesn't End with the Prescription.

Regular follow-up is an important part of medical weight management.

During follow-up visits, we may monitor:

  • Weight
  • Body measurements
  • Medication response
  • Side effects
  • Appetite and eating patterns
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Blood pressure
  • Relevant laboratory results
  • Changes in weight-related health conditions
  • Progress toward your individual goals

Medication may be continued, adjusted, changed, or discontinued based on your clinical response and overall health.

7

Building Long-Term Success

Medication can be one tool—but it is not the entire program.

At Azum Medical, we emphasize sustainable lifestyle changes alongside medical treatment.

Your individualized plan may address:

Nutrition

Developing eating patterns that support your health and treatment goals.

Movement

Finding realistic ways to increase physical activity based on your abilities and lifestyle.

Sleep

Recognizing the relationship between sleep, appetite, metabolism, and overall wellness.

Behavior

Identifying habits, triggers, and patterns that may affect long-term weight management.

Metabolic Health

Monitoring conditions such as prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol when appropriate.

Three Ways to Participate

We want patients to have options when accessing medical weight-management care.

Self-Pay

Patients without insurance coverage—or those who prefer not to use insurance—may participate through our self-pay weight-management option.

Our team can explain applicable consultation, follow-up, laboratory, Fit3D, and medication costs before treatment.

Direct Primary Care Members

Patients enrolled in an Azum Medical Direct Primary Care (DPC) membership can discuss medical weight management as part of their ongoing relationship with our practice.

Medication, laboratory, imaging, pharmacy, and other costs may be separate depending on the service or treatment selected.

Insurance

Azum Medical can also evaluate patients for medical weight management through their health insurance when applicable.

An important note about medication coverage:

Being evaluated through insurance does not guarantee that your insurance plan will cover a particular weight-management medication.

Coverage varies considerably by:

  • Insurance carrier
  • Individual plan
  • Employer benefits
  • Medication formulary
  • Medical criteria
  • Prior-authorization requirements

Some plans exclude weight-loss medications altogether.

Our office can assist with appropriate documentation and prior-authorization requests when required, but final coverage decisions are made by your insurance plan.

Who May Benefit from Medical Weight Management?

A medical weight-management consultation may be appropriate if you:

  • Have struggled to lose weight through lifestyle changes alone
  • Have repeatedly lost and regained weight
  • Are concerned about obesity or overweight
  • Have weight-related medical conditions
  • Are interested in learning whether prescription weight-management medication may be appropriate
  • Want physician supervision during your weight-loss journey
  • Would like a more structured and personalized approach to improving your metabolic health

Eligibility for medication treatment is determined individually following medical evaluation.
